2 - Organization Design

 

 

Situation

 

    • A $20+ B multi-BU high-tech firm was facing foundational changes in industry technology that demanded NPD and Marketing to increasingly be integrated across BUs

    • Firm had attempted cross-BU NPD for 12 months without significant success.  They decided to change organizational structure to drive integrated NPD and Marketing

    • Client requested reorganization vision, organizational structure options, a reorganization approach, and implementation support for a reorganization that had to be sold quietly at the executive level and implemented quickly

 

Actions Taken

 

    • Defined organizational design rules, structure options, and rationale for integrated Corporate Marketing / NPD function
    • Orchestrated and created executive “sell packages” on behalf of the CMO
    • Provided client a comprehensive approach and work plan for reorganization
    • Assessed R&Rs and split the organizations according to design rules
    • Evaluated personnel for key executive leadership positions
    • Orchestrated the reorganization implementation including all work streams
    • Created and managed the HR database
    • Defined detailed R&Rs with select groups to get them up and running quickly

 

Results

 

    • Client successfully created a Corporate Marketing organization with responsibility for NPD and strategic marketing functions
    • Client is now able to manage a large, cross-BU NPD portfolio of projects
